Capsule Manufacturing Capability
Icare’s manufacturing capability includes filling and processing two-piece hard shell capsules across a wide range of sizes and product profiles. Hard capsules are one of the most flexible supplement formats: they suit single actives and multi-ingredient blends, mask the taste of botanical extracts and allow relatively fast development compared with more complex dosage forms.
Powders, Extracts and Granulation
Successful encapsulation depends on how a blend flows and fills. Very fine powders, sticky extracts and low-density ingredients can make fill weights inconsistent. Where needed, granulation technologies more commonly used in tableting are applied to improve flow and density, and Icare has experience with both wet and dry granulation approaches for this purpose.
Capsule Options
Projects can be discussed in a range of capsule sizes, in coloured or clear shells. Gelatin and vegetable (HPMC) capsule options can be considered according to the formulation, target market and dietary positioning of the product.
Fill Weight and Formula Design
The capsule size and number of capsules per dose are driven by the total fill weight of the formula. During feasibility review we assess the ingredient doses, bulk density and any excipients required, and advise whether the formula fits the intended capsule size or whether dose, format or serving size should be adjusted.
Moisture-Sensitive Products
Some ingredients and probiotic blends are sensitive to humidity. Icare’s capability includes producing selected products under low-humidity conditions, with packaging chosen to protect moisture-sensitive formulas through shelf life.
Packaging
Finished capsules can be supplied in bottles or jars with induction seals and desiccants, or in blister formats, with labelling and cartons coordinated as part of the project.
